By Air:

You can take a 25 min flight to Vieques from San Juan International Airport for about $180 round trip. You can also fly to Vieques from San Juan Isla Grande airport for about $100 round trip. A Taxi to San Juan Isla Grande from the San Juan International airport is about $20. You can save a couple of bucks going this way if there are two or more people traveling.

By Ferry:

The Vieques Island Ferry travels between Fajardo & Vieques harbor. The Vieques Island terminal is located in Isabel ll. Reservations are not accepted, however tickets may be purchased in advance at the Fajardo or Vieques terminals. Please note, in cases where the ferry does not have sufficient seating the local residents will have boarding preference. Passenger fee is $2.00/person, one way

Vieques lies about 8 miles to the east of the Puerto Rican mainland, and measures approximately 21 miles long by 5 miles wide. The two main towns of Vieques are Isabel Segunda (sometimes written "Isabel II"), the administrative center located on the northern side of the island, and Esperanza, located on the southern side.

There are no passports or visas necessary for United States citizens, which means that US citizens can travel freely in and out of the island without going through immigration or customs. US citizens should just carry a government issued ID.

Citizens of other countries have the same requirements as for entering the USA. Potential visitors must first obtain a visa, and hold a valid passport.

The Puerto Rico International Film Festival will be held the town of Esperanza, at the southern side of Vieques.

Although there are numerous hotels on the island, from low-budget to luxury. Space is limited, so be sure to make reservations early!

Should I rent a car?

Spaces are almost never available on the ferry for your rental car, unless you reserve at least a month in advance. However, rental cars are available in Vieques, as well as scooters, bikes, ATV’s and other transportation to get you around the island. Your best bet would be to wait until you arrive in Vieques to pick up a rental car.
